Call For Papers

1st Workshop on Communications, Data Processing and Control for Unmanned Autonomous Systems (CPC-UAV)

in conjunction with IEEE International Conference on Sensing, Communication and

Networking (SECON 2018), June 11, 2018, Hong Kong

Scope:

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems are being increasingly studied in a broad spectrum of applications and contexts. Examples include disaster relief, public safefy, and first responders, precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, infrastructure surveillance and monitoring, and fault detection. However, the contrasts between the complexity of the operational environment, the diverse UAV tasks, and the intrinsic limitations of the UAV platform are apparent and pose multiple technical challenges that need to be overcome.

In particular, autonomous operation of the UAVs requires making sense of the surrounding environment, complex decision making, and coordination with other UAVs and ground resources. Urban scenarios create additional challenges in terms of complexity, spectrum availability, and safety. This workshop seeks to solicit contributions addressing UAV systems communications, data acquisition, processing, and networking, and UAV control. Demonstrations of experimental platforms and novel interdisciplinary approaches addressing fundamental problems are particularly encouraged.

Focus areas include, but are not limited to,

  • Context-awareness and decision making for UAV systems
  • Networking and communication protocols for massive UAV swarms
  • Resilient communication protocols for UAV control
  • Integration of UAV systems in urban environments
  • Physical-layer channel modeling for UAV systems
  • Energy-aware operations and control of UAV systems
  • Coordination strategies and multi-agent control for UAV swarms
  • Data processing for UAV systems
  • Learning frameworks for autonomous UAV systems
  • Sensing and navigation frameworks
  • Flexible sensing, processing and control architectures for UAV systems
  • Path planning, localization and target tracking for UAV systems
  • Channel modeling for UAV communication networks
  • Security and privacy issues in UAV systems
  • Aerial video streaming and adaptive rate control
  • Multimodal aerial capture and data integration
